A New York-based photographer superimposed crime photos from New York City’s past onto photographs of the locations they would occur in today.

Marc A. Hermann, historian of the New York Press Photographers Association, unites New York City's past and present through these stunning photographs. The gruesome, gritty feel of old New York meets the sheen of new, reminding viewers that a more violent time was in the not-so-distant past.

The fascinating images show just how far the city has come, not just in terms of cleaning up some of its streets, but also how the city has totally reinvented itself, while at times staying resolutely the same.
