The one thing that everyone and their trill-ass mom wanted to get into during New York Fashion Week was the Hood By Air Spring / Summer 2014 runway show. After A$AP Rocky closed the brand's official NYFW debut last season, people knew that some crazy shit was going to pop off this year. Plus, true fans of Shayne Oliver's label know that the gear goes so far beyond the T-shirts that tend to show up in any street style round-up.
As the Hood By Air label continues to grow, Oliver told us that he wants to make the gear more wearable than what we saw last season, which was almost more sculptured art than clothes you could rock down the street. What went down the runway this season was definitely still levels above what the average dude would rock, but HBA has never been for the average dude. Instead, half-deconstructed garments re-interpreted oxfords and denim in the same manner that Oliver remixed what a T-shirt could be about.
The surprise guests in the crowd included JR Smith, Kanye West, and Mike the Ruler, who is the waviest pre-teen in the country. We were there both before the show and during to capture the preparation and end results of the theatrical spectacle that Hood By Air put on. Click through to get a glimpse behind the scenes of the show that had kids going wild trying to get in, and will have people buzzing throughout the rest of NYFW.
