With the highly anticipated release of Apple iOS 7 comes the introduction of a free new app from Artsy. Available now in the App Store, the Artsy app contains over 50,000 high resolution images of paintings, sculptures, photography, and various other artworks from hundreds of galleries, museums, and private collections around the world. iPhone and iPod Touch users can browse works from institutions including the Guggenheim, Gagosian Gallery, Pace Gallery, and SFMOMA without leaving their home, and also have the ability to purchase a good portion of the works directly from their mobile device.

The one-of-a-kind app is fueled by The Art Genome Project, a complex system of mapping shared characteristics of art and artists into "genes" that provides for a much easier and enjoyable experience for users trying to navigate the tens of thousands of images. The over 500 genes range from "Street Art" and "Cyberculture," to "Food" and "Abstract Expressionism." There is so much to see and it is all available in your pocket.

The interface for the Artsy App was designed with the new features of iOS 7 in mind. Users can see exactly how a piece looks in a gallery setting with the "View in Room" feature while holding the device in landscape mode. Founder and CEO of Artsy, Carter Cleveland says that Artsy is "developing the most technically-advanced, sophisticated and beautiful means for everyone to access art. Mobile technology is a critical step in that direction--especially as collectors and art enthusiasts are spending less time sitting in front of computers and more time on the run."
