Installation artist Chris Burden is set to display his first major exhibition in the United States in over 25 years at the New Museum. Entitled "Chris Burden: Extreme Measures," the large survey will cover each of the museum's five floors and spill out onto the exterior, including key works from his extensive forty year career. Burden's installation pieces are large and often kinetic, utilizing industrial parts and machinery while exploring the limits of the materials and "engaging with the representation of masculinity and the destructive potential latent in engineering pursuits."
The works on the exterior of the museum will remain for a year, becoming a part of the Lower Manhattan skyline. Two thirty foot sculptures will sit on the roof and a third (Ghost Ship) will hang along one side.
