On November 9, the Jewish Museum in New York City will open a retrospective exhibition to celebrate the career of famed editor and comic book writer, Art Spiegelman. The exhibition will reflect on Spiegelman's five decade long career including a look at his well known graphic novel Maus and some of his lesser known work such as covers for The New Yorker and RAW, the magazine that he co-founded in the '80s that helped reinvigorate the underground comic world.
For those unfamilar with Maus, it is a retelling of his parents' experiences in Nazi-occupied Poland during World War II, starring mice as the protaganists. The graphic novel is often revered as one of the greatest of all time, which is why its number one on our "25 Comic Books You Need To Read Before You Die" list. But Maus is only one of Spiegelman's many accomplishments to be highlighted in this retrospective which has traveled the world and will land in New York City for its only stateside showing.
