Shepard Fairey's Art To Cover Buses and Hundreds of Billboards in Los Angeles

For the #ArtsMatter public arts project.

The Los Angeles Fund for Public Education worked with Shepard Fairey to create artwork for their #ArtsMatter public art project, benefitting the Los Angeles Unified School District. Entitled Create Your Future, Fairey's design was created in response to the students of the school district who answered his question, "What does the world look like when you take away the things that limit you?"

Earlier this year, we saw a LAFund collaboration with John Baldessari for the same initiative that took a minimalist approach, but Fairey goes full wrap with his custom design. Fairey chose to use symbols in his graphic that reflect the non-profit's work with the students and what they stand for: green energy, financial and material success, and creativity, to name a few. Los Angeles residents (or visitors) are asked to tweet and post Instagram photos mentioning @LAFund and using the hashtag #ArtsMatter whenever they see the billboards or art-wrapped buses.
