As we told you before, Hong Kong’s upcoming M+ museum is meant to put the country on the map when it comes to the international art scene. In order to make that happen, the institution has hired a member of an already established museum.
Doryun Chong, who is currently working at New York’s Museum of Modern Art, has been named chief curator of M+ museum. He will be taking the position in September, serving alongside the curatorial team. “We have been searching for the right chief curator for years,” said executive director of M+ Lars Nittve. "With his extensive knowledge and understanding of the contemporary art scene, not the least in Asia, Doryun is an extraordinary addition to our growing team."
To give you some background on their new hire, Mr. Chong was born in South Korea and graduated from the University of California at Berkeley. His first served as a curator for the San Francisco’s Asian Art Museum in 1999. After four years, he went to the Walker Art Center Minneapolis. In 2009 he finally came to MoMA as an associate curator of painting and sculpture.
