Wrestlers influenced rappers in wearing masks, but they knew how to keep up the mystery.
WWE Superstar: The Great Sasuke
While rappers have recently started wearing masks, wrestlers have been doing it for decades. Sure, you've seen Kanye West or French Montana cover their faces in recent months, but you always knew what was under the veil. Long before that, plenty of Mexican wrestlers have a legacy of "luchadores," and Japanese wrestlers have a masked heritage too. The Great Sasuke clinched the first ever WWF Light Heavyweight Championship in 1997, making him a legend. Even after he left wrestling to become a Japanese legislator, the wrestling great still refused to remove his mask. Talk about dedication.
