Yes, James Turrell may have three million exhibits going on this year, however Italian artist and movie maker Francesco Vezzoli is also planning blockbuster shows into next year. We already told you about his return to MOCA, but he is set to appear on the East coast, and in Rome. All in all, there is the Galleria Vezzoli at MAXXI (lasting through November 24), the Klaus Biesenbach-curated The Church of Vezzoli opening at MoMA PS1 this fall, and of course “Cinema Vezzoli” at MOCA L.A. in 2014.

Below you can see a trailer for his international series. It goes hard. You would think a new Batman movie was being announced. Who said art had to be tame?

But the shows deserve to be talked about. Each will be different from one another: the MAXXI show will stand as a retrospective of around 90 works. The MoMA PS1 exhibition will see the reassembly of a a 19th century church all the way from southern Italy installed in the courtyard of the institution. Filmworks will be displayed at the L.A. MOCA exhibition.
