Carmelo Anthony is looking to score big—in the art world. The basketball player said he wants to build up a big art collection. In an effort to make that dream a reality, Melo recently bought a print of Muhammad Ali at an auction for $27,000. But that's chump change for him.
He bought the print at the Gordon Parks Foundation Awards dinner and auction at the Plaza Hotel in Midtown Manhattan. It was a gelatin silver print from the noted photographer and filmmaker being celebrated by the event. The piece is entitled “Muhammad Ali in Training, Miami, Florida, 1966." Melo sat next to Tommy Hilfiger and Swizz Beatz (who we recently interviewed about his Damien Hirst collabo and seriously, you should hear about it).
The Knicks player said to Page 6, “I am big into the art world. I am still learning, I’ve bought a lot of different artists. As far as collecting just one, I am trying to take my time and get some art I feel genuine towards.”
