The Chicago Sun-Times made a bold move. The publication laid off every member of its photography staff, according to the Chicago Tribune. In all, twenty full-time staff members were informed at a meeting that they were now jobless. The publication will only be working with freelance photographers in an effort to cut down costs.

Video is proving to be more influential that photography, according to a Sun-Times statement:

None

Many publications are making similar moves to stay alive in the industry. However, working with freelancers isn't just a economic move. In hiring people all over, pictures have more diversity. But sadly layoffs in journalism are not uncommon lately.
