In the spirit of performance fabrics, Gore-Tex ushered in a new era of synthetics. Essentially a porous form of Teflon, Gore-Tex formed the basis of other similar products, like the extremely windproof Windstopper fabric. Today, Gore-Tex is one of the best waterproof synthetics out there, and pioneered the movement towards outerwear meant to withstand mother nature's worst.
