Becky Cooper believes that "maps are more about their makers than the places they describe," which inspired her project of mapping memories in her new book, Mapping Manhattan. Distributing hundreds of blank, hand-printed maps of Manhattan to a myriad of New Yorkers, the artist and author set out on a cartographic journey as she asked actors, critics, homeless people, models, police officers, and other strangers to express their personal recollection and relationship with the city. Her book presents 75 of the collected maps that are based on unique themes and tell stories of the lives experienced on the island known as "Manhattan."
