Today marks the opening of Dannielle Tegeder's first solo museum exhibition, “Dannielle Tegeder: Painting in the Extended Field,” at theRuth and Elmer Wellin Museum of Art. The show goes beyond painting, the medium she originally worked in, and enters the territory of animation, sculpture, photography, and sound, as she has done in the past five years.
Tegeder's abstract works reference maps and blueprints to evoke dystopian, post-apocalyptic cities. Once she went from painting to trying sculpture and other mediums, she realized the possibilities of working in a multimedia capacity. Having exhibited in group shows at the New Museum, MoMA, the National Academy Museum, and elsewhere, it's a perfect moment for her to have a show that looks back at the past five years of her work.
The exhibition will have a site-specific work done by Tegeder and fine art students from Hamilton College, responding to the architecture of the Wellin’s new Machado and Silvetti-designed building. We learned about this piece, among others that will be in the show, at her studio in midtown NYC.
