Daft Punk Shares New West Coast-Themed Photo Shoot for Carine Roitfeld's Online Magazine

Random Access Memories couldn't come soon enough.

It's safe to say that music blogger anxiety is at an all-time high right now, in between news of Daft Punk's forthcoming interview with Pete Tong on BBC Radio 1 (airing Friday) and a snippet of new Kanye West music supposedly found on KanyeWest.com. The latest in the Daft Punk Random Access Memories marketing rollout includes the result of their photo shoot at James Goldstein's house last month, which is part one of a black and white spread for Carine Roitfeld's style and inspiration website, CRFashionBook.

While Mathieu César delivered the best images we've seen of the duo in promotion of the new album, Sky Ferreira's accompanying interview doesn't tell us much more than we already know about them from recent news and interviews. The only new information we can glean is the possibility that Hedi Slimane of Saint Laurent, who designed the suits they wear in the shoot, may be more creatively involved than with just their fashion direction, since Sky asks them about their "creative brief" for the album. Slimane's muses have often been musicians, from Courtney Love to Lady Gaga and Christopher Owens, and he actually photographed and art directed Gaga's The Fame Monster cover. It's very possible that he's also doing Daft Punk's album packaging, which hasn't been officially revealed yet.

All of that aside, 24-year-old Mathieu, known for his fashion photography for Jean-Charles de Castelbajac and others, captured the West Coast vibes that we've heard in "Get Lucky" and that have been promised on the album by Pharrell and Nile Rodgers. His images are crisp and monochrome, and they delicately balance fashion photography with editorial portraiture. It's safe to say that with the May 21st release date, we're all getting lucky very, very soon.
