Artist Sebastian Errazuriz Has an Unfriendly Message for Art Fair Visitors with Installation "Blow Me"

We hear you loud and clear.

None

Designer and artist Sebastian Errazuriz is mad and he isn't afraid to say it. At the entrance of the Cristina Grajales Gallery booth at Collective Design Fair, people will see the artist's wall-mounted work of fans behind an electric sign that reads the title of the piece, "Blow Me."

Errazuriz feels like art fairs no longer help people connect to works. He made the piece in response to the unfair expectation artists have of simply wowing potential buyers. He says to ArtInfo: “It’s this crisis of trying to get the people to connect [to your work] and trying to retain your own integrity.” He continues, “The piece tries to respond to that. It literally will blow people away, and at the same time, it will all be telling them to go f*** themselves. I’m going to do what I want to do.”

What's even more daring about his work is the fact that Errazuriz is a member of the Collective and has played an integral role in shaping the fair since its first opening. He also added, “['Blow Me'] is not necessarily critical of all the fairs, or this fair in particular. On the contrary, I’m very happy that this fair exists — but there is something to be said that it’s really important to be able to bite the hand that feeds you.”
