A Traveling Neon Sign in the UK Reminds You That "You are (on) an island"

Hey, you could be, too!

UK-based Neon Workshops worked with American artists Alicia Eggert and Mike Fleming on the "You are (on) an island" project. Installing a neon sign bearing the message on the back of a van, the artists drove around various areas in Yorkshire, UK, to bring the short phrase to many unexpected audiences. The word "on" occasionally flashes to shift the message to "You are an island," inspiring contemplation for many passing the sign. The van was parked on various streets, a busy shopping area, next to the sea, and in working-class towns, while the sign was occasionally removed to be displayed on a stable stage for more people to enjoy.
