While the subjects of Carly Fischer's sculptural installations are usually those easily overlooked and abandoned, she recreates these items as carefully crafted paper models that address the issue of local versus global replication. She has produced figures of boxes, wrappers, cigarette butts, aluminum cans, plastic bags, and other broken and abandoned items, solely using paper as their material. Many of her sculptures feature empty packaging from big name corporations like McDonald's, Marlboro, and Dunkin Donuts, as she explores ideas of globalization and homogenization through the growing commonality of certain items in our everyday visual culture. Some you may even mistake for being real.
