I feel for you, Middle America fashion kid. Reading Four Pins everyday longingly, just wanting to move to a city where everyone won’t call you gay just for liking shirts. “I want to move to New York to pursue my love of fashions! I want to nonchalantly smoke a cig outside of a show while Tommy Ton circles me, snapping away. Why, oh why, did I have to be born in Bumfuck, Nevada?” But then a ray of hope appears. You notice some of your favorite Four Pins writers don’t even live in New York! There are dudes from Iowa—lol though, Iowa? Is there even a city in Iowa?—from Detroit, Portland and Seattle. You start to realize that Lawrence is like the San Antonio Spurs of the blog game, scouting talent far and wide. I hear he’s got a 12-year-old Canadian holed up in a cabin prepping posts for the 2018 heritage comeback. Your heart is lifted. It’s just like when I read in a physical magazine (what?) that Derek Blasberg (who?) was from regular-ass St. Louis (that was like 8 years ago, asshole.) The glory of the Internet has opened you an entirely new path, one in which looking at runway slideshows suffices for actually being there, and commenting on some random dude's blog for four years has replaced the traditional internship. Yes you, even from the middle of nowhere, can become the big time fashion writer you were born to be.
