Tamara Staples became fascinated with an animal most don't particularly fancy: chickens. She visited an uncle in Georgia who was a chicken breeder. She became enamored with their behaviors, comradery, and unexpected beauty. The photographer began capturing imags of chickens in Illinois, Wisconsin, Ohio, and other Midwestern states. She amassed a collection of portraits for a book in 2001 and has developed a follow-up work entitled The Magnificent Chicken: Portraits of the Fairest Fowl.
