40. Ezra Koenig
Band: Vampire Weekend
In the late 2000s, indie rock gravitated towards a lighter sound, and style started to look a little preppier. Right around the time Vampire Weekend started blowing up, boat shoes and chinos began to overtake raw jeans and sneakers. We're not saying Ezra Koenig is directly responsible, but he certainly embodied the current zeitgeist in an array of knit sweaters, button-down shirts, and well-fitting sportcoats. Instead of being tucked in an uptight, the neo-prep wore his shirts outside of his waistband, and his chinos slim instead of baggy. He still didn't care at all for socks though.
