Construction to Begin on the Louvre Abu Dhabi

The world takeover begins.

Following the Louvre's opening of a satellite museum in Lens, France, Dubai-based construction firm Arabtec has announced their $653 million deal to begin building the Louvre Abu Dhabi with completion scheduled for 2015. The rendering above was designed by Jean Nouvel and spans 689,000-square-feet of pavilions, plazas, alleyways, and canals. It will exist on Saadiyat Island with 100,000-square-feet of exhibition space. The Louvre's expansion is important, and the Abu Dhabi location, as many of our favorites museums are, will undoubtedly be a work of art in itself.
