Artists Are Helping Artists Affected by Hurricane Sandy at "Flood the Art Market" Event

Check out the event tonight if you're in NYC.

As many know, Hurricane Sandy delivered a devastating blow to NYC art galleries in Chelsea. Whether it was flooded basements or damaged artworks, the art world felt the wrath of this natural disaster. What others fail to realize is that many artists were just as (if not more) affected by Sandy.

Tonight, artists unite in NYC at Cristin Tierney Gallery (546 West 29th Street) to raise money for other artists in need by auctioning off donating artworks. Artists included are Hally McGehean, Melanie Abramov, Clams Rockafeller, Janette Beckman, Charlie Ahearn, Duke Riley, Mike Giant, Todd James, and more. All the starting bids will be low so that people will actually be able to afford the work.

Hally McGehean, founder of Flood the Art Market says, “We have received an overwhelming amount of support from the artistic community. We have original work donated by established artists from all over the country, and are intentionally setting the starting bids well below the market rate so that we encourage healthy bidding and give people a chance to not only help out, but to also own an incredible piece of art.”

RSVP for the event on Facebook and preview some of the artworks that will be on sale in the thumbs.
