Andy Warhol was a well-known commercial illustrator before he became a fine artist full-time. While he went on to paint, screen-print, make films, and more, many overlook his early drawings.

Art dealer Daniel Blau discovered over 300 drawings done by Warhol during the 1950s and has published them in a new book titled From Silverpoint to Silverscreen. He says, “You think you know an artist and then he does something unexpected. The drawings have given Warhol roots.”

Whether figurative or more abstract, they all resemble German/Austrian illustrative styles, giving us a new perspective on Warhol's artistic foundations.
