New2 "In One Hand a Ghost, the Other an Atom" at White Walls SF

The Australian invasion of San Francisco continues.

There's something about San Francisco and Australian street art. In the fall of 2011, 941 Geary opened the flood gates, inviting a who's who from down under to participate in Young & Free: Contemporary Australian Street Art. Since then White Walls has flown the flag for Australian graffiti, hosting solo exhibitions by Everfresh Crew members Rone and Meggs.

Next up is another bloke from Melbourne, New2. His exhibition, In One Hand a Ghost, the Other an Atom, opens this weekend. All the works included are hand-cut layered paper collages, which prove tremendous personal growth on the artist's part since 941 Geary's pioneering show. New2 is obsessed with traditional lettering, though in his technique allows himself freedom to explore more progressive forms. His art is a clash of too mediums, and the depth of field in his creations strikes a clear juxtaposition with his chosen material.

New2's work will remain on view through January 5, 2013.
