Laura Ball's Dynamic New Paintings Shine at Denver's David B. Smith

Contemporary art in the mile high city.

California-born and educated, Laura Ball explores the subconscious though delicately rendered creatures. Nature mixes with imagination, and the various animals depicted form intertwined, multi-layered narratives. Ball works in watercolor, a process that allows for equal parts delicate detail and vivid color blossoms. It works, and her mastery of technique sings through in every piece.

Her latest work, collected under the title Minatour, is now on view at Denver's David B. Smith Gallery. Ball's version of the animal painting—where animals act as protagonists in our interior worlds—fill the space and the pages of an associated catalog.

Minatour runs through January 19, 2013.
