On first glance, the interactive light installation Silo 468, built by the Lighting Design Collective (LDC), is a sleek, captivating space for anyone to enjoy and experience. You might not realize that it was once an oil silo that was perforated with 2,012 holes in order to create the uniquely lit environment it provides. Situated in Helsinki’s Kruunuvuorenranta district, it's also wind-powered and turns red at midnight as a reminder of its past as an energy container.
The entire installation is in celebration of Helsinki being named the World Design Capital of 2012.
