When Guy Laliberté went on a twelve-day trip to space at the International Space Station, he didn't realize he'd be capturing the stunning photographs now on display at Marlborough Gallery in NYC. The Cirque du Soleil founder imagined that he'd take images for himself, but soon realized that he had unprecedented access to aerial shots of the Earth and felt obligated to share them.
Last night, Laliberté opened his exhibition GAIA in conjunction with the release of a large book of photographs. His work explores the shortage of water worldwide and the need to provide clean, safe access to it. His organization ONE DROP is dedicated to this mission, and the photography exhibition is one of their many gestures creating awareness of global water issues. All proceeds from the sale of the works and book will go towards research, planning, and implementation of ONE DROP efforts.
The exhibition runs now through January 5, 2013 at Marlborough Gallery (40 W 57th St # 2, New York, NY).
