Brooklyn-based Annie Kyle examines concepts of beauty in her multimedia paintings. She's interested in artifice, especially fears that narcissism lends to hyper-awareness of mortality. Kyle's paintings depict iconic female nudes with covered faces. She gives her beauties a rare vulnerability, which makes them both exceedingly attractive and representative of deeper societal issues related to gender roles.
Kyle's True Beauty is on view through January 2, 2013. Don't miss it.
