The High Demand for Snakeskin Fashion May Lead Pythons Into Extinction

It's getting real out there.

Snakeskin is one of the many animal prints ruling closets this year and is a strong contender to continue as a trend well into next year. While it's mostly prints and artificial fabrics that small companies have been using, the larger luxury market is booming with the real deal.

According to researchers, there’s a growing demand in European countries for fashion items with serpent pelts. Poor regulation on the trade leads to half a million python skins exported annually from countries like Vietnam and Indonesia. With the trade of these skins reaching numbers of up to $1 billion annually, it’s only more of a reason for all hands involved to keep going. If there are no stricter regulations implemented soon, the world might have to kiss pythons goodbye. Where's PETA at?
