Who says an old dog can't learn tricks?

In the art world, we see regular switches by artists who expand their output by switching up media. In Clare Rojas' case, change is subtle. The Ohio-born painter has switched acrylic paint out for oil in her latest body of work, Pith, set for exhibition at PRISM Gallery.

Pith finds Rojas concentrating on abstract space and geometry. You may be reminded, just a little, of Mondrian. There is a similar interest in planes and points, and flat bands of color. Yet, with Rojas this new subject matter is a move away from character-driven narrative. She's exploring her potential as a painter and pushing the possibility of creating emotional atmospheres.

From what we've seen thus far, it's working.

Clare RojasPith opens on October 19 and runs through November 3, 2012.
