American artist Adam Ferriss creates photos using tri-color separation, a 19th century technique that gives Instagram a run for its money. The process is based on trichromatic principles, expanding on having three different visions separately and undoing the synthesis our brain does when it visualizes colors. By separating colors, we can understand movement's relationship to color in a whole new way.
In the words of Ferriss,
“The camera is put still and it captures the movements of objects/plants in three different types of exposure...It’s really the oldest method to create color photos. Rendering that process and introducing some digital element, like a pixel sorting algorithm, seemed to me like an interesting way to turn an old procedure into something unexpected.”
