Eske Kath's "Blackboard Jungle" solo exhibition opened last night at Charles Bank Gallery in NYC, featuring a series of paintings and an interactive entryway. Kath used actual blackboards as the foundation for each painting, symbolizing science's quest to uncover truth. The compositional chalk drawings and painted parts resemble solar systems and waves, representing the organic — yet ultimately limited — parts of our existence.

Altogether, his series mixes science, nature, myth, and fragile structures to bypass the rules of the "blackboard" and media at large. His method, combined with his presentation (which last night included a musical performance by Oh Land), strikes the viewer as genuine, meaningful, and inspiring, to say the least.

Visit the exhibition at Charles Bank Gallery (196 Bowery, NYC) now through October 20, 2012.
