Street Artist Takeshi Miyakawa Arrested In Brooklyn

Miyakawa was arrested while installing a piece for NY Design Week.

Takeshi Miyakawa was arrested last Friday, May 19th, in Brooklyn after a bystander called the police, concerned about an "I Love NY" lighting installation he set up. Meant as a piece for NY Design Week, he created multiples that cleverly avoid overheating and involve minimal creation and installation costs. Unfortunately, the bystander thought he was installing an explosive device, so the area was evacuated for 2 hours while he was arrested.

Following our historical compilation of the 50 Biggest Street Art Arrests, news of Takeshi's detainment is both unsettling and further evidence of an ongoing misunderstanding between street artists and the law. Sign Designboom's petition to free Takeshi Miyakawa. [Designboom]
