Peter Buchanan-Smith started Best Made with a single axe. The Ontario native had realized, quite quickly, that there was nowhere buy a decent axe in New York City (not surprisingly), so he set out “to right the wrong” and create something of quality that also had lasting value. By working with an established company in Maine he made an axe that fit his criteria, and then stained, branded and painted it to create the Best Made axe. Out of that first axe Buchanan-Smith has created a community center and online purveyor for woodsmen and women. And now, on the Best Made site you can find cargo nets, knives, folk music, books, and maple syrup among other outdoorsy things. [BestMadeCo]
