The New York Times examines the current state of the fashion industry in the wake of lauded designer (and A$AP Rocky favorite) Raf Simons' departure from Jil Sander, where he had been creative director for seven years. The recently-announced news came as a shock, especially when it was revealed that he was allegedly fired from the position. Replacing him will be designer Jil Sander herself, who is most known for her +J collection with Japanese retailer Uniqlo. Sander and Uniqlo wrapped up their collaboration this past fall.

Among other things, NYT fashion critic Cathy Horyn talks about the lessening importance of designers over brands, Simons' impact on the industry, and how the Internet has affected the luxury market. [New York Times]
