Next year, New York City's Grand Central Station will celebrate 100 years of operation. The building, one of the Big Apples' most iconic spaces, serves over 700,000 per day and is home to the nation's largest commuter rail system.

The centennial logo, which will officially go into use on February 1, 2013 (the exact birthday), was created by Michael Bierut, partner-in-charge and designer, and Joe Marianek, designer, of Pentagram. The icon is inspired by the clock in Grand Central's Main Concourse, with the hands pointing to 7:13, which reads 19:13 in trainmaster's time. A fine ode to an icon, with appropriate nod to tradition in revealing birth year. [Pentragram]
