We've been all type of hype about the opening of The Ungovernables. The exhibition, which officially opens today at the New Museum, functions as the institutions 2012 Triennial.
Over 50 participants (solo artists and collectives alike) are included, each born between 1975 and 1985 and representing the unique concerns of a generation which came to age after the revolutionary movements of the 1960s and 1970s. The artists all explore notions of impermanence and engagement, pushing what is possible through resourceful adaptation of all sorts of material. There are awesome works in clay. Tremendous installations of hammered copper. And, even love letters created from discarded photographs.
In total, The Ungovernables is about life in the city and what a city can be… boosted by an invisible energy that keeps progress moving and the past alive... through the eyes of young pan-cultural artists.
