Sports play an undeniable role in American culture. Images of our pastimes show how games express ideas about politics, race, and fanaticism. The newest exhibition at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, The Sports Show, uses key moments in sports to highlight these themes and share the impact of sports media on our culture. Drawing from a rich tradition of sports photography and digital images, the collected material communicates the significance of the spectacle of sports.

Built over six distinct sections - leisure, circulation, race, politics, icons, and spectacle - The Sports Show explores how the image shaped sports as a way of life, not just in America, but globally as well.
