Bruised and Battered, Piet van den Boog's third solo show at Mike Weiss Gallery, presents powerful, large-scale portraits mixing oil and acrylic paint. While faces are rendered in fine detail, the abstract backgrounds serve to frame deeper stories. Boog's subjects are not singular beings, instead they represent the internal scars carried by many. In short, the portraits are big, bold, and full of emotional baggage.
