News broke a few days ago that Raf Simons would be leaving Jil Sander where he's been the creative director for almost seven years. While Simons' future remains unclear, the execs have found a new replacement. In just a few short days, designer Jil Sander, who founded the company in 1968, will be taking over.
Sander left her eponymous line in 1999 after Prada bought a 75 per cent stake in her brand and she clashed with her CEO Patrizio Bertelli. She came back in 2003 and made two collections, but only to leave again in 2004. Since then, the company has been sold twice and is now owned by the Japanese private equity firm Onward Holdings.
While Simons' work at the brand has been well received, it apparently hasn't sold as well as the collections designed by Sander herself. It's bittersweet to see Simons go but we know he'll kill it wherever he goes. As for Sander, welcome back.
