Established back in 1934, the Redwood Room is a legendary San Francisco nightspot. Recently, the Bay's most storied watering hole has been given a makeover — part of the larger Clift refurbishment by hotelier Ian Schrager and famed designer Philippe Stark. Retaining the warm wood walls and old world feel, the Redroom incorporates some intriguing contemporary twists. For example, the portraits that dot the walls are digital with eyes that literally follow revelers as they move from cosy booths to belly up to the bar.

The environment spot for both classic and newly minted cocktails. (And, not a bad spot from which to assess the local talent).
