Michael Leon
Acting as curator, Arkitip has chosen artist Michael Leon for the first in a series of artistically driven products for Pendleton Woolen Mills. For over 100 years Pendleton Woolen Mills has been designing and manufacturing the world’s best woolen blankets.

Michael Leon was raised amidst the skateboard culture of the late 80‘s and early 90‘s. His work lives in a unique place between the worlds of art and art direction, embodying the freedom of thought and Do-It-Yourself tenacity of a skateboarder – a combination that has produced impressive work in many forums and mediums including painting, prints, sculpture, photography, and video.

Since Leon‘s first solo exhibition in in Philadelphia, PA 2002, his artwork has been exhibited in galleries and museums around the world. Michael created the image of California with truck holes for this exhibition.

“Having grown up a skateboarder in the South, and moving to California in 1993, It has always been a very important image to me both in respect to my personal history and as an exemplification of how I strive to communicate ideas both simply and poetically. I have worked with Arkitip on various projects and exhibitions throughout the years and when the opportunity came to design a blanket with Pendleton, I knew that this would be the appropriate image”.
