Hermès CEO Compares LVMH’s Buyout To ‘Rape’

Strong words from the big man, as the fashion house prepares for possible changes.

Hermès CEO, Patrick Thomas held a press conference this morning in Paris where he continued to discuss the agressive attempts from French holding company LVMH to take over the brand. Thomas, a fan of metaphors (previously comparing Hermes to a flower), took things a step further this time with his comment: “If you want to seduce a beautiful woman, you don’t start by raping her from behind”. WHOA! OK, we get it. You don't like the way LVMH is coming at you, but dude, have some tact. WWD reported there were audible gasps from the audience, obviously. Thomas also mentioned a possibilty of removing the Hermès stock from the stock exchange so that investors can no longer trade shares—which would be a borderline insane and major move. Things clearly aren't going silky smooth like the scarves at the brand. We'll see how this plays out.
