Acclaimed photographer Michael Schmelling spent the last three years documenting Atlanta's hip-hop scene, and has just released the pithily titled book of the project, Atlanta. A coffee table edition, Atlanta features Schmelling's portraits and candids of all aspects of the ATL, from the stars (Gucci Mane, Andre 3000, Ludacris) to the fans to the parties, and even the strip clubs. With commentary from The New Yorker's Kelefa Sanneh and GQ's Will Welch, and an accompanying mixtape download of unreleased tracks by some of Schmelling’s subjects, Atlanta makes a great addition to any rap lit library. Hit the jump to see an image preview of some of Atlanta's pages, and to read some of the stories behind the characters photographed for the book.
