Vik Muniz is a Brazilian-born artist who literally turns other people's trash to treasure. He collaborates with catadores (garbage pickers) at the world's largest garbage dump in Rio de Janeiro to sort out specific shapes, and from there goes on to create large-scale pieces like the one above. Vik has lived in New York City for over 27 years, and garbage isn't his only medium (Muniz has recreated 'The Last Supper' and the 'Mona Lisa' using diamonds, chocolate syrup, and PB&J), but his projects in Rio are pretty crazy. Head over to his site for more of his work. [1800recycling]
