Underground comic legend Harvey Pekar passed away yesterday at the age of 70. Pekar, who grew up adoring comic-book superheroes like Batman and Superman, found his calling through a portrayal of ordinary curmudgeons much like himself. His work, along with that of others like Robert Crumb, created a category unto itself within comics, and Pekar's autobiographical series, American Splendor, lasted for 30 years before being turned into a feature film a few years back. Rest in peace, homie. [Smithmag]
