Crystal Ski Holidays Want To Change The Way You View The Slopes

Crystal Ski Holidays have made it their mission to break down some of the barriers and misconceptions that are stopping more diverse crowds from picking up skis

Amongst those who haven’t been skiing before, a few common misconceptions sometimes exist. For some, skiing can seem like an unattainable activity reserved for the fabulously wealthy, while others might be put off by the kit they think they’ll need, or because they don’t happen to know anyone else who has done it before.

The reality is skiing, and ski holidays, are way more accessible than such thoughts would suggest.

As the market-leading ski package tour operator in the UK, Crystal Ski Holidays have a keen interest in breaking down these perceived barriers and doing everything they can to show that skiing and skiing holidays can be for all.

To get a first-hand look at this in action—and to help dispel some of those myths—Crystal and Complex invited radio and podcast presenter Henrie Kwushue, DJ and Social Fixt founder Mercedes Benson, and Simi Oke, founder of Mount Noire (an organisation whose whole mission is focused on bringing diversity to skiing) to a resort in the mountains of Bulgaria.

While Simi, a seasoned skier, tore it up on the slopes, Mercedes, with minimal previous ski experience, and Henrie, with none, also had a blast—not to mention a few comedy moments—getting to grips with the basics. Simi, of course, is a seasoned pro, but for less experienced skiers like Henrie and Mercedes, there are always instructors on hand to offer lessons and guidance.

These days a ski holiday typically offers so much more beyond the action on the slopes, and Henrie, Mercedes and Simi took full advantage of the full range of activities on offer on their trip—from riding a skidoo to sampling the all-important Après Ski where they got to sample some cocktails and mocktails, and get involved with some traditional bar games—set against the Instagram-friendly backdrop of alpine forests and jaw-dropping nature.

While it’s cool to have so much to do on the ski slopes and at the bars, also on offer at the Borovets resort there’s the option of snow biking, sleigh rides, winter walking trails, hot springs (spa), bowling, karaoke, and more. And there’s even more on offer at other resorts, including paragliding, ice driving, ice skating, ice karting, indoor climbing wall, ziplines, snow tubing, and bobsleigh.

Check out the video above to see how they got on.
