Joel Embiid was forced out of Philadelphia's game against the Knicks on Wednesday night after a brutal headbutt collision on Wednesday night.
This wasn't a WWE-style headbutt with an opponent, though. The All-Star was knocked out of the game after a fluke collision with rookie 76ers guard Markelle Fultz—who had just returned from an ailment himself.
Attempting to execute a handoff near the top of the key, Fultz's head collided with Embiid's face, knocking the seven-footer to the floor.
After laying on the court for a few moments, Embiid gathered himself and eventually headed to the locker room. He did not return to the game.
Embiid was examined by doctors, who say he suffered a facial contusion but managed to avoid a concussion.
The 76ers were already without center Amir Johnson, who was out with flu-like symptoms, but they managed to hang on for a 118-101 victory over the Knicks. Philadelphia is now 44-30, holding the fourth position in the Eastern Conference.
