Nutty Packers Fan Wants to Build a Mausoleum at Lambeau

A Packers fan had a slightly morbid request for team president/CEO Mark Murphy.

On the first Saturday of every month, Green Bay Packers CEO/President Mark Murphy writes a brief column about one of the organization's topics of interest, and then answers five questions from fans. If you're a frequent visitor to Packers.com you might've been aware of this, but the rest of us were in the dark—at least up until now.

This past Saturday, Murphy continued the tradition, answering five questions that were probably scrubbed by staffers to avoid fans venting their frustrations with insults and four-letter words. Regardless, Murphy did answer "Kurt from Frisco, Texas," who suggested that the team build a mausoleum on the stadium grounds to generate additional revenue. At first glance, a line like, "[F]amily and friend visitation would produce additional income from a stop at the Pro Shop. Go see grandpa, then have lunch and grab a jersey" might make you think the letter is a joke, but then you realize some sports fans are out there, so it's probably legit.

Kurt's suggestion, in full, read:

In response, Murphy thanked the fan for the suggestion before politely declining—anybody who's ever had a customer service job knows the drill. "Thanks for the out-of-the-box suggestion, Kurt. I've had fans ask if they can spread the ashes of a loved one at Lambeau Field, but a mausoleum would take it to a whole different level," Murphy replied. "As much as I appreciate your creativity, I'm not sure I'd be comfortable with a mausoleum at Lambeau Field, or using it as a source of revenue. I think we'll pass on the Lambeau mausoleum."

Oh well, Kurt. You're just before your time. Try writing back in a few years if NFL ratings continue to decline.
